Dima is from Gaza and was supported by Horizon to attend UWC Maastricht. She was previously awarded an AMIDEAST scholarship and spent a year at a school in the USA. Whilst in the USA and the Netherlands Dima raised awareness amongst her peers about Palestine and worked to counter misunderstandings. She is planning to study at Lake Forest College in the USA where she intends to study International Relations as she would like to be an ambassador and represent her country, Palestine.
Abdalrahman is from Gaza and was supported by Horizon to attend UWC Maastricht. During his two years at UWC he tried to incorporate his Palestinian culture into everyday activities to spark the interest of his peers. At the school’s International Fair, he served Palestinian food to more than 1,500 guests and he also ran cultural workshops on Palestinian writers and traditional dabke dance. Abdalrahman is currently doing an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Rochester, USA.
Razan is from Hebron (West Bank) and graduated from UWC Atlantic in 2014. After completing her UWC studies, she obtained a BA in International Politics and Economics in 2018 from Middlebury College, USA. During the final year of her university studies, Razan received a Community Engagement Initiative award from Horizon to conduct an awareness raising project on the subject of Palestinian history. She is currently working as an economic analyst for the Analysis Group in the US where she utilises data analysis skills and works within teams to help structure and co-ordinate different streams of analysis.
With Horizon’s support, Derar graduated from UWC Atlantic in 2010. He completed a BSc in Finance at the University of Florida in 2014. He started his entrepreneurial career straight from college and built a logistics/technology start up with staff hired on four different continents. He also founded a global travel programme that empowered people to travel and work remotely in 18 different countries. His enterprises have been featured by Forbes, CNN and a number of other publications. Currently, Derar works as a management consultant and a business designer helping executives identify, assess, validate and build new scalable opportunities in their existing markets.
