Tenzin is a Tibetan refugee who was born in India. She was supported by Horizon at UWC Maastricht where she particularly enjoyed being a member of the Environmental Action Group. Tenzin is currently studying for a BA Economics and Computer Science at Wellesley College. She told us: “Going to UWC was the turning point in my life. This was the first time I realized that a year can entirely change a person’s life.”
Tenzin is a second generation Tibetan born and raised in India. She graduated from UWC Atlantic (2009) and then completed her BA in Chinese History at Wellesley College (2013), her MA in East Asian Languages and Cultures at Columbia University (2017 ) where she also obtained her PhD in East Asian History (2024). In 2018, Tenzin received Horizon Community Engagement Initiative funding to organise a Tibetan Retreat. The event gave Tibetan university students access to mentoring, networks and helped them to better adjust to life in the US. Tenzin has recently begun a two-years postdoctoral fellowship at Brown University.
Tsering is a second-generation Tibetan refugee born in India. He was supported by Horizon at UWC Mostar where he was an active member of the school’s anti-racism team. Tsering also has a passion for music and plays a number of musical instruments. He is now studying BA Theatre at Colorado College and plans, in the future, to work on incorporating theatre in the curriculum at Tibetan refugee schools in India.

Sopa graduated from UWC Atlantic in 2012 and then obtained a Bachelors in Information Technology and Business Administration from Westminster College (USA) in 2017. He was involved in setting up a platform for peaceful dialogue with Chinese students in his university to discuss Tibet’s political situation. Sopa is currently working as a Cloud Engineer for Google.
