Dima is from Gaza and was supported by Horizon to attend UWC Maastricht. She was previously awarded an AMIDEAST scholarship and spent a year at a school in the USA. Whilst in the USA and the Netherlands Dima raised awareness amongst her peers about Palestine and worked to counter misunderstandings. She is now studying for a BA in Data Science and Economics at Lake Forest College in the USA.
Abdalrahman is from Gaza and was supported by Horizon to attend UWC Maastricht. During his two years at UWC he tried to incorporate his Palestinian culture into everyday activities to spark the interest of his peers. At the school’s International Fair, he served Palestinian food to more than 1,500 guests and he also ran cultural workshops on Palestinian writers and traditional dabke dance. Abdalrahman completed an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Rochester, USA where he is currently undertaking an MSc in Technical Entrepreneurship and Management.
Razan is from Hebron (West Bank) and graduated from UWC Atlantic in 2014. After completing her UWC studies, she obtained a BA in International Politics and Economics in 2018 from Middlebury College and an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania in 2023. During the final year of her undergraduate studies, Razan received a Community Engagement Initiative award from Horizon to conduct an awareness raising project on the subject of Palestinian history. After completing her undergraduate studies, she worked as an economic analyst for the Analysis Group where she utilised data analysis skills and worked within teams to help structure and co-ordinate different streams of analysis. She is now working as an Associate for McKinsey and Company.
With Horizon’s support, Derar graduated from UWC Atlantic in 2010. He completed a BSc in Finance at the University of Florida in 2014. He started his entrepreneurial career straight from college and built a logistics/technology start up with staff hired on four different continents. He also founded a global travel programme that empowered people to travel and work remotely in 18 different countries. His enterprises have been featured by Forbes, CNN and a number of other publications. Currently, Derar works as a management consultant and a business designer helping executives identify, assess, validate and build new scalable opportunities in their existing markets.
