In memory of...

Hadil Marzouq

With great sadness and sorrow-filled hearts we remember our much-loved scholar, Hadil Marzouq, who sadly passed away on December 17, at age 21.  From Palestine, Hadil entered Horizon's scholarship programme as a UWC Maastricht scholar, going on to become a junior at Bennington College, Vermont. In the four years Hadil was with us, we watched her mature into an empowered young woman, full of vigour and promise. We remember Hadil's beautiful smile, her courage and strength as she strove to become the person she wanted to be, and her solemn reminder that life is precious and often all too brief. Hadil brought people together, transforming the lives of all who knew her; we are better people for having known this inspirational young woman. We will miss you, Hadil.

Hadil sent these words to Horizon as she graduated UWC:

"It is almost the end! The UWC life will be leaving me forever, leaving me with a new Hadil. A girl who can depend on herself to start building her own future with her full willingness. I have never thought that after UWC I will become the person I always dreamt of being. I used to think that I know what happiness meant, until very recently, when I found out that I had never known what true happiness is.  It is not only a smile on the face, or a laugh, neither money. It can be feeling comfortable but Happiness indeed is much more than this for me. Happiness is to do what you love and to love what you do..."
